Virginia is for Beach Lovers

We all know that Virginia is for lovers. But let’s get a little more specific — Virginia is for Beach Lovers! Cape Charles on the Eastern Shore is nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and the Chesapeake Bay. You’ll experience beaches with fun amenities to coastal wildlife paradises. They are perfect for playing in the surf and sand or exploring all our amazing wildlife and greenspaces. Let’s explore the beaches and what you can do when visiting.

Cape Charles Beach

First things first. Let’s start with our beautiful public beach that’s less than 5 minutes from our inn. Experience these shallow waters (even at high tide) that provide a refreshing and relaxing time in the sun. With no crashing waves, swimming at this beach is a favorite activity. There’s so much more, including venturing out on the water in a kayak, on a paddle board, or zipping across the water on a jet ski. Poseidon Watersports provides rentals and easy access to the water. At the end of the fishing pier, fishermen can cast their lines to see who gets bragging rights for the biggest catch. Cape Charles Beach is definitely top of our list for a spectacular day of fun in the sun — and a gorgeous sunset.

Savage Neck Dunes

Looking for miles of beach with fewer crowds? It’s found at the end of a path just a short hike from the parking lot. This is a spot for nature lovers as the path takes you through a maritime forest and sand dunes. This hidden gem is rustic, so plan ahead since there are no amenities available. Savage Neck Dunes provides a relaxing and quiet place to stroll along the water’s edge and unwind from the responsibilities and challenges life brings.

Kiptopeke State Park

The southern beach at Kiptopeke State Park is a fisherman’s dream. Cast your line from the pier or one of the “concrete ships” off the waterfront. Be sure to check into the licensing and age requirements before fishing. At this beach, visitors may also go swimming and boating. You can also bring your furry family members (as long as they’re on a leash).

The northern beach stretches for about half a mile. Swimming is allowed, but be aware that there are no lifeguards on duty. One of the special things about this beach is that fishing, kayaking, and boating are not allowed (no pets as well). So, this may be your best choice if you’re looking for some quiet beach time.

Where to Stay?

Conveniently located close to all our beautiful beaches, our Bay Haven Inn of Cape Charles offers a place to relax and restore. Our rooms offer comfortable beds, pristine bathrooms, and luxury amenities to make your stay unforgettable. Enhance the romance with our Sunset Celebration. We’ll pack a picnic basket with champagne (wine, beer, or non-alcoholic beverage), an appetizer assortment, and a blanket. Once you’ve experienced one of our amazing sunsets, you’ll know exactly why Virginia is for Beach Lovers. Start planning your beach getaway today!
